Lloyds of Avalon is one of the more popular places to eat, serving up ice cream and candy that is. Marilyn Monroe used to work at Lloyds when she lived on Catalina Island.

Overview of Restaurants

Catalina Island offers a variety of dining options to satisfy a range of tastes, from upscale and fancy to cheap, fast and on the go. The majority of the dining options on the island can be found in the town of Avalon. Overall prices for eating on Catalina are a little higher than what would be found on the mainland for the same menu. The majority of quick eating options can be found along Crescent Avenue where there are a variety of bars and restaurants. In addition there are dining options on the Green Pleasure Pier, Catalina Avenune and Sumner Avenue where the ticket plaza is located. All dining options on Catalina are relatively close to one another and easy to find.


As Crescent Ave makes its way along the foot of Avalon Harbor visitors will find beautiful views of Avalon Bay on one side and a line dining and shopping opportunities on the other.

At the foot of the Green Pleasure Pier is Sally's Waffles Shop that serves up a delicious breakfast of omletes and waffles. It is the perfect place to get a good breakfast before starting the day on the island.

Pancake Cottage on Crescent Ave is another island favorite serving of all things pancakes and other hearty breakfast foods.

Steve's Steakhouse is located upstairs above a line of shops on Crescent Ave and offers visitors a full seafood and steak expeirence while giving them the relaxation and pleasure of the view of the bay and Pacific beyond.

Lloyds of Avalon is an island favorite and tradtion, serving up saltwater taffy that is made in the window for visitors to watch, Lloyds is located on the heart of Crescent Ave and also includes a variety of other sweet treats that include a range of chocolates, carmels and cinnamon rolls. It is also said that Marilyn Monroe worked behind the counter during her breif time as a resident on the island.

On hot summer days Big Olaf's is the place to go. Located just north of the Green Pleasure Pier and along the beach, Big Olaf's features ice cream placed in giant homemade waffle cones. In addition they serve premium ice cream, sundaes, malts, shakes, nonfat self serve yogurt, frozen bananas and popsicles. Big Olaf's is an island favorite and has been a Catalina Island tradition for decades.

Armstrong's Seafood Restaurant is located on a small pier that extends out into Avalon Bay. Armstrong's Seafood Restaurant serves a variety of high end seafood from salmon and halibit to jumbo sized fried fish. Other menu items include steaks, crab cackes, mussels and clams. The restaurant offers a full bar and the atmosphere is relaxing and the views are spectacular.


Located at the foot of the Green Pleasure Pier is the Avalon Grille-one of Avalon's newest dining spots. Menue consists of a variety of seafood items and offers a large central bar and outdoor seating. Eric's on the PIer is another popular destination on the pier that offers a full bar and dining experience. Open for 75 years Eric's serves hamburgers, soft tacos, burriots, fish and chips and of course a full bar.


The new Descanso Beach Club has recently been upgraded for 2010 to include upgraded furnings, daily and evening dining, fire rings on the beach, lounge rentals, restrooms and private cabanas.

Lobster Trap

The Lobster trap located on Catalina Ave is the newest restaurant on Catalina Island. The Lobster trap offers a variety of seafood menus including fried calamari, salmon, oysters, mussels, cod, fish and chips and more.

Mr. Nings Chinese Garden

Just off of Crescent Avenue and across from the ticket plaza is Mr. Nings Chinese Garden. This restaurant cannot be missed with its bright red door, Catalina Island's only chinese restaurant specializes in Mandarin and Szechwan cuisine.

Mi Casita is a popular Mexican restaurant on Catalina Island. Located on Clarissa Ave near the intersection of Crescent Ave, Mi Casita is said to have the best Margharitas of anywhere in Avalon and is conveneint walking distance to Avalon Harbor, the main boat terminal and all points in Avalon.
